What the Bible teaches about the Christian Norms
The body is the temple of God
1. How does God consider the human body? (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20)
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body[c] and in your spirit, which are God’s.
2. In what two aspects of health is God interested in? (3 John 2)
2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
Principles of health
3. Which is the basic principle of our food? (1 Corinthians 10:31)
31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
4. What meats are inconvenient? (Leviticus 11:3-20)
3 Among the animals, whatever divides the hoof, having cloven hooves and chewing the cud—that you may eat. 4 Nevertheless these you shall not eat among those that chew the cud or those that have cloven hooves: the camel, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, is unclean to you; 5 the rock hyrax, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, is unclean to you; 6 the hare, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, is unclean to you; 7 and the swine, though it divides the hoof, having cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. 8 Their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch. They are unclean to you.
9 ‘These you may eat of all that are in the water: whatever in the water has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the rivers—that you may eat. 10 But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you. 11 They shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination. 12 Whatever in the water does not have fins or scales—that shall be an abomination to you.
13 ‘And these you shall regard as an abomination among the birds; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard, 14 the kite, and the falcon after its kind; 15 every raven after its kind, 16 the ostrich, the short-eared owl, the sea gull, and the hawk after its kind; 17 the little owl, the fisher owl, and the screech owl; 18 the white owl, the jackdaw, and the carrion vulture; 19 the stork, the heron after its kind, the hoopoe, and the bat.
20 ‘All flying insects that creep on all fours shall be an abomination to you.
5. Why do we cease from alcoholic beverages? (Proverbs 20:1)
1 Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
6. Why is it not convenient to use tobacco, tea, coffee, and stimulating beverages? (1 Corinthians 3:16-17)
16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are
Norms for life
7. How should our personal attire be? (1 Timothy2:9,10)
9 in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, 10 but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.
8. Why do we not attend inconvenient performances? (1 John 2:15-17)
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
What should I do?
9. Make sure that I live a perfect Christian life (Matthew 5:48)
48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
10. Follow the example of Jesus (1 John 2:6)
6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
I believe that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Therefore I shall abstain from all harmful food & beverage.
