The faith of Jesus

Lesson 13

What the Bible teaches about death

Life

1.    Who created man and how did he make him? (Genesis 1:27; 2:7)
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Death

2.    What is death? (Ecclesiastes 12:7)
7 Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it.

3.    To what does Jesus compare death? (John 11:11-13)
11 These things He said, and after that He said to them, “Our friend Lazarus sleeps, but I go that I may wake him up.” 12 Then His disciples said, “Lord, if he sleeps he will get well.” 13 However, Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He was speaking about taking rest in sleep.

4.    Do the dead know anything? (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6)
5 For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing, And they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished; Nevermore will they have a share In anything done under the sun.

5.    What happens with the "soul"? (Ezekiel 18:4)
4 “Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.

6.    Should we consult the dead? (Deuteronomy 18:10, 11)
10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.

What should I do?

7.    Comfort me in the hope of the resurrection. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

8.    Believe in Jesus (John 11:25)
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.

9.    Persevere until achieving immortality that God will give me. (Romans 2:7)
7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;

My resolution:

I relied on the wonderful promises of God. I give my life to Jesus to obtain eternal life.
