What the Bible teaches about the origin of sin
Beginning of sin
1. Where and when did sin originate? (Revelation 12:7-10)
7And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
2. In who was sin originated? (Ezekiel 28:14-17)
14Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 16By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty; thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground; I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
Sin on Earth
3. What sign of obedience did God give to Adam and Eve? (Genesis 2:15-17)
15And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
4. The first sin consisted of what? (Genesis 3:1-6)
1Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden 2And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4And the serpent said unto the woman, ye shall not surely die: 5For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Terrible consequences of sin
5. What is sin? (1 John 3:4)
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law
6. Who does the sinner give in to? (1 John 3:8)
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
7. What is the end result of sin? (Romans 6:23)
23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our
What should I do?
8. Resist Satan in the name of the Lord (James 4:7)
7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
9. Do not continue with sin (Romans 6:12)
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
10. Overcome sin with the help of Jesus (Romans 8:37-39)
37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord..
I shall, with the help of God, clean my life from all sin
